092 – Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Purchase Frostbite at Amazon.com - You could technically do worse Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose…

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…
Hey guys! Sorry we missed last week’s comic rec, but we’re back with a proper review this week. Me, Kayla, and some random chick named Kelley get together to have a quick chat about Vampire Academy: Frostbite. We maaaaay also get side tracked by the movie. And Divergent. And also possibly House of Night. But mostly it’s about Frostbite.

Did Frostbite work for you guys? Did Vampire Academy? Does anybody actually like Rose? What the fuck is with all the Adrian hoopla? And on a scale of 1 to -200, how excited for you about this shady-looking Vampire Academy IndieGoGo thing that’s going on?

three stars

Also, hey, if you stay for the post-credits scene, do YOU guys have any thoughts on how we should continue our House of Night series review?

I laughed out loud at how you said the book covers look like “sex books”. The covers are so tacky and cheap-looking, and I don’t know who any of the people on the covers are supposed to represent. And I snort-laughed at how you said Dmitri in the movie is ugly. I’d call him a dog, but that would be an insult to dogs. He looks at least 35, and it’s super-creepy to see him paired up with Rose.

Anyway, I don’t normally listen to podcasts, but this was great.
